Message From The Dalai Lama

Dalai LamaThroughout history, human beings have constructed monuments & great works of art in religious celebration. Those who participate in these efforts created great merit, which is the cause of feature peace & happiness. For those who came afterward, such creation have been source of continued inspiration.

The last century saw greater violence & destruction than any other. Buddhist countries were not unaffected. Many, afflicted by the source of communism, saw the wholesales destruction of temples & monasteries & suppression of the spiritual community. Others, subjected to dictatorship, military invasion and terrorism, have had their freedom curtailed & their peaceful way of life disrupted.

The plans of the Nepal Council for Preservation of Buddhist Religion (NCPBR) and Mandala 21st Century, Japan. to create the world's largest Thanka as this period of turmoil subsides & we enter a new era of peace and optimism, is therefore timely. Illustrating the four major events of the Buddha's life in this way will become a great source of inspiration, Developing respect and admiration for the Buddha's & their qualities. as people who view the Thangka will be

encouraged to do, is among the causes for developing such qualities within ourselves.

Although contributors to the project come from many countries, if is appropriate that the Thanka should first We displayed in Lumbini. the Buddha's birthplace before being exhibited elsewhere. I pray that the project may be successfully fulfilled & that it may become an inspiration for peace & happiness throughout the world, now & in the future.
