Messages From Yasutada Katagiri

 Mr. Yasutada Katagiri
 President, Mandala 21st Century, Japan

The 20th Century was a booming age of science and technology. On the other hand, it  was an age of wars and revolution as well. There are millions of children who have  become the victims of this century and they have to live on to the 21st century with                                        scars in their hearts.

We must care about world peace and these children’s future. So, we instituted a project, which people of all parts of the world of any race and any religion can participate out of our common love and hope for the world. The dream, which was bigger than life, the dream that had stirred something deep inside me and my friend Surya Bahadur Thakali and the dream of valuable labors of past nine years came to be true. We finally reached to the mission of completing this big work. This work, of making the world’s largest Thanka!

The image of the world’s largest Thanka started dancing in our minds and eyes for the last nine years, as we spent days and months talking to people looking for avenues for help and support; there were times when doubts crept in us whether we were being too ambitious. Our enthusiasm would touch the sky one moment and the next we would be down and low. There were moments when our hearts would be filled with joy and at times we would cry out of steer frustration. During all these periods, we were getting attention of the like-minded people-people who were willing to join hands with us, who shared the vision and dream with us.

Things however started changing with the Japanese economy, which affected our initiatives and presented new challenges. We could not garner enough financial help as we had anticipated-so I had to stretch my personal resources as far as it could go. It was at times like I always think about my friend Surya and his wife Renu in Nepal who were going through similar situation trying to work out with their own resources. I used to worry about them a lot.

This Thanka as we had conceived, is not only made of clothes and threads, it is stitched by the commitment of thousands of volunteers worldwide- a commitment towards peace- a commitment towards harmony- a commitment towards humanity and the earth and all the lives in it. This Thanka is a commitment and a prayer-a prayer for world peace, the need for which is more now than ever before when we as humanity are going through such a dark and troubled times.

Let peace prevail on the earth!
Thank you!
