Mandala is a concentric diagram having spiritual and ritual
significance of Buddhism. Mandala is seen as a microcosm
representing various divine powers at work in the universe, and
it serves as a collection point of god and universal forces.
Figures of deities have specific positions in the diagram, and
the symbolism and structure of the Mandala are highly
elaborated. Mandala represents a totality of reality, inner or
outer philosophies. In the Mandala we designed, the complex
drawings or paintings are made which represent various levels of
existence of Buddha’s life. It reflects the spirit and
philosophies of Buddhism.
The
70mx50m Mandala weighing 2300Kgs has been made by 10,000
Volunteers from 16 countries. The construction work of the
Mandala began since 1994 and was completed in April 2002, nearly
after eight years.
The Mammoth Mandala is a collection of 81 pieces of carved
clothes
each measuring 7.7mx5.5m in size. Of the 81 pieces, each piece
is made up of 36 other pieces each measuring 1.17 square meter.
The
entire Thanka has used 7,000 square meter of cloth and 3,500
square meter of base materials. The 81 pieces have been zipped
together for which 1,450 meters of zipper was used.
10,000 volunteers are
Participated which is Nepal, Japan, France, United States of
America, Mongolia, Formosa (Taiwan), Cambodia, Guatemala, Australia,
Austria, Singapore, The Tibetan Community-Nepal, China( Hong
Kong), Indonesia, Korea and United Kingdom were involved in this
project, with each contributing an average of three months.
The Mandala has currently been preserved in Japan under the
Mandala 21st Century, Japan.
